Is Dark Earth the new Black? Nightforce Optics claims so in their latest offering with more ATACR and NX8 riflescopes in this color. To complete the system, their UltraMount is available in the same combination. According to Nightforce, their anodizing process offers a durable and corrosion-resistant surface finish, and it’s the same process used for their USSOCOM riflescope contracts.

Since 2017, the ATACR 7-35×56 F1 has proven to be reliable and effective under the demands of competition and the rigors of hunting. Additionally, a MIL-SPEC variant of the ATACR 7-35×56 F1 was tested and chosen by USSOCOM for the Precision-Variable Power Scope (P-VPS) program. In each of these uses, the ATACR 7-35 offers tried and true performance in extended range target detection and turret tracking across its entire adjustment range. ATACR 7-35×56 F1: Proven and Chosen.
According to Nightforce, there can be a variance in the resulting Dark Earth color due to the anodizing process. For instance, they mention that lot to lot variance of materials, machining methods, surface preparation, and variables within the anodizing process all affect the final color.
