The Roaring Twenties was a time in the early part of the 20th century marked by a surging economy, mass consumerism, big jazz bands, flapper girls, and of course, prohibition laws. The 18th amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified on January 16th of 1919 and officially went into effect in early 1920 marking the beginning of what many would consider being a tumultuous age for a developing America. To honor that time in history and the blood and bad times it brought us, the folks over at Nighthawk Custom have produced a one-of-a-kind 1911 dubbed “The Prohibition” which features engraving showcasing both the good times and the bad times on opposite sides of the handgun.

Nighthawk Custom Prohibition Engraved 1911

Once Upon a Time in America – “The Prohibition”
This hand engraved Nighthawk Custom 1911 is a 1 of 1 pistol that features the era of Prohibition in America, which lasted from 1920-1933, featuring both the good and bad on opposite sides.

The pistol features several engravings each featuring different aspects commonly associated with the prohibition era. The left side of the pistol is engraved with the likenesses of infamous mafia bosses Al Capone and Lucky Luciano on the slide. Meanwhile, the infamous bootlegger John Dillinger is inlaid in 999 silver on the grips and the front of the slide features the Speakeasy “Cotton Club” in NYC with the lettering being inlaid on the slide in 24K gold.

The right-hand side of the slide features “The Untouchable Prohibition Agents” Elliot Ness and Jimmy Malone who are known for taking down Capone in 1930 towards the end of the prohibition era. The agent’s likenesses are engraved once again in 999 silver inlay while their budgets are inlaid in 24k Gold. The right front of the slide shows the destruction of confiscated whiskey barrels and the distilling containers and tools are inlaid in 24K gold. The front strap of the frame features an image of Al Capone in handcuffs after he was arrested.

Finally, at the top of the slide is the image of famed Cotton Club dancer Mildred Dixon. The front sight is more than just a blade and is instead a whiskey bottle with the engraving “Prohibition – 13 Years” and will be inlaid with 999 silver and will feature a red seal.

The Prohibition 1911 will come with two bottles of Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition Whiskey and one such bottle can be stored inside the 300-year-old oak barn wood display box which also features blue Alcantara leather upholstery. Since this is a 1 of 1 custom piece, I can only imagine what the price would be for someone who wanted to pick this up as a collector’s item.
