One Week to Stop the Wait: Silencer Shop Sees 6-Day eForm Approvals

One of the biggest hurdles for most people when it comes to buying a suppressor (aside from the high upfront cost) is the fact that suppressors or other ATF Form 4 items usually take somewhere between 6-months to over a year to get back approved. For many, this means that their hard spent cash is sitting in a safe somewhere until a piece of paper with a stamp on it comes back to them almost a year later. However, according to Silencer Shop, the long waits seem to be over with the introduction of the ATF’s eForm process which Silencer Shop has seen bring back approved forms in as little as 6 days.

The ATF eForms process officially went live in December of 2021 and since then those who wanted to pick up a suppressor or other Form 4 items have been rapidly putting their forms in the online bin for the ATF to process. Now it seems that this new batch process that the ATF is using to process these eForms is finally paying off with many receiving their approved forms back in less than 30 days and in some cases in less than a week according to reports from Silencer Shop.

Numerous Silencer Shop customers have already received their eForm 4 approvals. Per the ATF, the timeline was an expected 90 days, and some customers have been approved much sooner. Silencer Shop dealers have been a resource for the community by submitting eForm 4s since the middle of January 2022. We’ve seen applications submitted on Jan 17, 2022 approved on February 11, 2022, which is less 30 days and we’ve even seen a 6 day approval! Customers have reacted enthusiastically to the Silencer Shop Full Auto™ software; it’s been great seeing such positive outcomes for gunowners getting their suppressors or other NFA items so quickly,” said Dave Matheny, CEO of Silencer Shop from the company’s bustling headquarters in Austin, Texas

The Form 4 eFile process is quite easy to get through and if you’re looking for a nice online written guide on how to submit your own ATF Form 4 for a suppressor, transferrable machine gun, or short-barreled rifle, check out this article by TFB Editor in Chief Pete that covers the introduction of ATF eForms process and also includes a link to a video from Silencer Shop that will walk you through the process of filling out and submitting a Form 4 via the ATF eForms program.

I’d like to hear your guys’ thoughts on this new process and these drastically decreased wait times. Are these new shorter wait times enough of a compromise for you to finally pick up your first suppressor or SBR or are you still holding out for some other possible outcome in regards to the ATF and the regulation of suppressors? Let us know!

Had my eForm 4 certified and sent out on 1/23/22 and it's currently in review per the ATF. Bought another can in March this year and waiting on ready to certify. Had all my documents signed and the Form 3 approved in roughly a weeks time. Seems like it moves along at random, all factors considered.

Just had an eForm3 approved in 3 days. Hopefully, processing times will accelerate for the eForm4s … the key is getting faster turnaround on the ten-print (fingerprint) validations by the FBI via the EFTs. The good news is that eForm4s are not assigned to specific examiners by state — for some that should speed things up.
