RWS Ammunition Introduces the R Plus Long Range 22LR Cartridge

Long-range shooting has become a popular sport for a lot of shooters and that extends to rimfire shooters like me. While standard velocity ammunition is often picked as the king of consistency for longer-range .22LR shooters, RWS Ammunition has a new offering in the way of their new R Plus Long Range cartridge for distances beyond what normal .22LR ammunition is capable of. RWS has accomplished this via specialized bullets specially loaded for distances of over 200 meters.

The R Plus Long Range cartridge uses a heavy grain bullet which has been specially designed with a higher BC for a flatter trajectory and increased wind resistance. According to the product page on the RWS Ammunition website, this new bullet weighs in at 43 grains and is traveling at a muzzle velocity of 1,165 fps (listed as 355 m/s out of a 650mm/25.5-in barrel). The bullet itself features a tapered tail which is intended to improve its aerodynamics which should, in turn, lead to a more consistent and stable trajectory.

The new cartridge from RWS ammunition is set to be released in the 3rd quarter of 2022 and you can bet I will be doing my best to get my hands on a couple of boxes of this stuff to really see if it does improve long-range consistency. At the time of writing, there is no estimated or published price on this new German-made ammunition but I am assuming it will cost about as much as other premium long-range precision rimfire cartridges out there. What are your thoughts on this new ammunition? Let us know down in the comments!

That's around the same speed as Winchester's T22 target load.

It will be very hard to get a consistent powder charge in that itty bitty case and get a consistent velocity. I've pulled some .22LR to weigh the powder and it's like 1.5 grains. The powder would have to be weighed to a hundredth of a grain.
I would be willing to try a box and record the results at 50 yards (my backyard range) from both my Savage 64F with iron sights and my AR with the CMMG .22LR conversion kit.
I have a Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph,
