If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

Manufactured in 2004, this GORGEOUS revolver sports the SUPER RARE 2″ barrel chambered for the .45 Colt cartridge! If you’re not already confused, let me try to break this one down for you.  The first generation (produced from 1873-1941) Single Action Army or SAA came in various barrel lengths.  These varied from 4.75in all the way up to 7.5in depending on model.  Depending on the source and publication, the shorter sub-4in models were called a Sheriff’s Model, Bankers Special, or Storekeeper.

Essentially, what you’re looking at is a 2004 Colt reproduction of a first-generation SAA.  This is kinda nice as a first-gen would be worth as much as a house, but not nice because, well, what’s the point.  We now have a not-winning combination of short sight radius with awkward-looking grip.

I’ll concede the little details on this gun like this immaculate case hardened finish.  Something that looks incredible on old revolvers, and over the top on anything else.  Practical?  Absolutely not.  Cool under a microscope?  Absolutely.

This auction started off as a penny auction with no reserve, and the bidding is already up to $1,136.  So this gun definitely has value among a particular fanbase.  Still, that’s not enough to answer the question we’ve all come here to answer.  As always, I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
