POTD: Heckler & Koch G36C or HK243?

    HK243

Photo Of The Day: We all want what we cannot have. The Heckler & Koch G36 is one of many such things for anyone enthusiastic about modern firearms. The next best thing – at least on the European market – is the Heckler & Koch HK243. Here you can see part of a project initiated by

    The description goes:

Thanks to Martin, a good friend of mine who went this route before, I have to have a G36C conversion.
And this is how it starts: with a HK243, the next best thing to a G36.
Then the barrel needs to be cut down to a length of 228mm/8.98in, a new gas manifold has to be established, the gas port drilled and the G36C gas block and piston system needs to be installed. Then the new, short handguard can be used, the slightly shorter rear stock is already in place.
In addition to the proprietary G36 magazines I can switch the standard magwell for the HK416 magwell (top left, installs in under a minute) to use readily available AR15/M16 MAGS. I will probably get a Spuhr magwell too, as it is ambidextrous while the HK version can only be manipulated from the left side.
The muzzle device on the rifle is already the correct G36C flash hider.
Sadly when everything is done, the folding stock has to be pinned in place to make the rifle legal. But that’s a small price to pay for owning essentially a semi-auto HK G36C.

You can find the HK243 S SAR (Semi Automatic Rifle – Sporter Basic Variant) here: https://www.heckler-koch.com/en/products/sport/rifles/hk243/hk243-s-sar/overview.html
