Meet our Autonomous Vessel Protection Detachment AVPD on board the Word Food Program Merchant Vessel Spiekeroog. Currently the Montenegrin Team assumes this key responsibility to the OpAtalanta. This team takes turns with the Lithuanian, Serbian and Croatian teams during up to four month periods permanently on board the ship.

The use of AVPDs to protect WFP shipping is paramount for – Newsfeed as it allows greater flexibility in the use of the warships to ensure freedom of navigation, while guaranteeing the safety of WFP vessels.
As a summary of the main achievements of AVPD teams and WFP vessels in the region, the following data can be highlighted:

Up to 8 WFP vessels escorted;
Up to 39 WFP vessels protected by AVPD teams on board;
Up to 224 WFP vessels permanently monitored by EU NAVFOR #OpAtalanta;
More than 180.000 Tons delivered to refugees and displaced people in Somalia by WFP vessels.
More than 1.600.000 Tons delivered to refugees and displaced people in other countries in the region by WFP vessels.
