MAXIM Defense Short Barrel Ammunition - Tumble Upon Impact

Compact and light, rifle caliber personal defense weapons (PDWs) are a compromise to pistol caliber carbines or submachine guns. Unfortunately, short barrel rifles can leave cartridges designed for longer barrels anemic when it comes to terminal performance. MAXIM Defense Short Barrel Ammunition is designed to create wound cavities that outperform expanding and fragmenting rounds and can tumble at velocities down to 500 fps. MAXIM Defense also just released a line of suppressor-friendly frangible ammunition that can be shot on steel targets at very short distances.

Today’s short barrel rifles excel in close-quarter encounters but sometimes lack the velocities and terminal ballistics that longer barrels have. To address these concerns, Maxim Defense partnered with Fort Scott Munitions to optimize ammunition loads specifically for SBRs.

By making these adjustments, as well as including their TUI® (Tumble Upon Impact™) technology, the Maxim Defense Ammunition ballistic wound cavities exceed the standards of both Expanding and Fragmenting projectiles. The TUI® design of the projectiles tumble all the way down to 500 fps.

Maxim Defense Short Barrel Ammunition is the ultimate choice for when close quarter battle and personal defense are non-negotiable.

Born from the SOCOM PDW solicitation, the Maxim Defense PDX is designed to handle the fierce demands of the Tier 1 community. The PDX dominates close-quarter encounters and achieves maximum energy on target. At just 18.75” in overall length, the PDX delivers groundbreaking power and performance in a subcompact platform.

At the heart of the PDX is our newly developed Maxim SCW system. This patent-pending system cuts down the length of the stock to 4”. The integrated BCG with interchangeable buffer weights gives you maximum performance and versatility without sacrificing form and functionality. The PDX uses a Direct Impingement system.

The PDX is also equipped with Maxim’s HATEBRAKE muzzle booster. This patent-pending device significantly reduces recoil, decreases the flash signature, pushes gasses and concussion wave downrange away from the operator and improves overall performance.
