[SHOT 2022] OSS Rebrands to Huxwrx and the RAD-9 + JP5 = one smooth, non-gassy PCC

    OSS Rebrands to Huxwrx

    OSS Rebrands to Huxwrx

    What’s in a name?

OSS, well known for their flow-through suppressors, rebranded to Huxwrx shortly before SHOT.  IN fact, it was so close to the start of the event that they were a bit hard to find, still being listed as OSS on most SHOT resources.

    Per Huxwrx:

Signature reduction and user safety have always been at the forefront of our mission. in 2020, OSS began testing our patented flow-through™ suppressors against traditional baffle suppressors for toxic blowback. Toxic blowback primarily consists of carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, and ammonia. on average, the amount of toxic gas that was being emitted back at the shooter’s face from a traditional baffle suppressor was 265% higher than with a flow-through™ suppressor.

It was at that moment everything changed…

In 2021, we made the decision to change our identity and commit our focus and our development to building dedicated safety systems to protect our end users.

HUXWRX safety company is a human exposure workshop dedicated to building products that are optimized for the safety and health of our customers without compromising efficiency or performance. we are a group of highly dedicated individuals that are deeply passionate about our mission and we are committed to bringing the best possible products to our end users while providing top-notch customer support. American manufacturing will always be a pillar of our brand and we proudly build all of our suppressors right here in Millcreek, Utah.

With that corporate powerpoint done, let’s get to the shooting….

    A match made for matches

Once I did track OSS/Huxwrx down, however, I did have a very good shooting experience, and shot perhaps the best PCC and suppressor combination I’ve experienced so far: The HUXWRX RAD-9 mounted on a JP5 roller-delayed carbine.

Earlier this year, TFBtv’s James Reeves dived deep into the performance of a RAD-9 mounted on an SP5K.  As with James’ experience, the flow through design of the RAD-9 combined with the roller-delayed blowback of the JP5 made for pretty much zero gas back into the receiver or to the shooter’s face.  While it may not be the quietest of all 9mm cans, the RAD-9 shines as a PCC suppressor for this very reason.

    A no-tune AK suppressor: The Huxwrx 762

Using their AK-specific Torque Lock qd mounting system, Huxwrx had one of their 762 suppressors with the flash hider endocarp mounted on a standard, off-the-rack non-tuned AK.  For those who don’t know, AKs normally come over-gassed, so suppressing an AK usually requires some tuning to make it as enjoyable an experience as possible without extra gas and recoil.

    OSS/Huxwrx 762

The AK equipped with the Huxwrx 762 churned along just fine without tuning, and though it hurled empty cases four lanes over, there was no extra gas coming out of the ejection port.  It may not be as versatile as the Dead Air Wolfman, but if you don’t want to tune your AK in order to quiet it down, I think the OSS/Huxwrx 762 cans would be one of my top recommendations for an AK suppressor.

Stay tuned for more from SHOT 2022!
