[SHOT 2022] Armaspec Unveils Harmonics Tuner Muzzle Brake

[SHOT 2022] Armaspec Harmonics Tuner Muzzle Brake

Armaspec is a noted producer of parts and accessories for the AR-15, AR-10, AK, and Glock platforms. This year at SHOT they were showing off their newest prototype. The Harmonics Tuner Muzzle Brake is exactly what the name suggests, a completely user-tunable muzzle brake.

The manufacturer of the Stealth Recoil Spring and Sound Mitigation Buffer has a new AR-15 and AR-10 product this year. Barrel harmonics are one of those things that you only think about when you start shooting for sub-MOA accuracy. Once you do though, it starts to matter. A lot. Harmonics is a fancy term for how the barrel moves when you shoot through it. When shot, a barrel will make small whip-like movements. These movements begin as soon as the powder ignites and the bullet starts traveling down the barrel.

Barrel tuners are small weights that are attached to barrels in order to mitigate some of this barrel whip. Armaspec has combined a tuner with a muzzle brake and made it adjustable. The user adjusts the brake themselves to mitigate the recoil impulse at the muzzle. Adjustments are made via a small hex screw on the cap of the brake. Armaspec is not the first company to do this, but they are one of the first mainstream AR-15 accessory companies to do so. The general consensus among long-range shooters is that tuners work, and I hope that this means more LRPS innovations will be coming to the wider market.

While this specific prototype is in the white, Armaspec assured me this was a display model, and that the final product will have a nitrided finish.
