[SHOT 2022] Taylors & Co TC86

It seems like almost every company claims to give a “modern twist” to a “proven design” or somesuch, but Taylor’s & Co appear to have struck gold with their TC86.

Taylor’s & Company 45-70 Takedown Levergun

Taylor’s is showing off their whole catalog at SHOT 2022, but what caught my eye was their TC86. Based on the venerable Browning design of the Model 1886, the TC86 is a 45-70 lever-action that, after unscrewing the mag tube, takes down into two compact pieces.

It’s also just freaking gorgeous. The case hardening and the walnut together produce a stunning rifle. The top picatinny rail allows for the mounting of optics, and also contains the integrated rear sight. It uses a fiber optic front sight post for faster target acquisition. For the suppressor lovers among us, the rifle does come threaded from the factory, with a 5/8×24 thread pitch.

Take-down of the rifle is surprisingly easy. First, open the action.

Then unscrew the mag tube with the handy folding lever on the end.

Twist where the barrel meets the receiver and…

It comes apart neat as you please. Reassembly is just as easy. Put the two halves of the gun together, tighten down the mag tube, and you’re ready to go.

From Taylor’s & Co

The TC86 Takedown is a hunting rifle where style meets function. Made for the ultimate expedition, while maintaining a finish fit for a classic design. With the take down feature the rifle becomes a versatile companion for the hunt, the hike, or to hit the road. Choose your adventure! The color case receiver and checkered pistol grip walnut stock with sling mounts combine function with style. A rubber butt plate absorbs recoil, and the wide lever size allows for easy use in all conditions. This model includes the weaver rail sight with a skinner peep sight on it and a fiber optic front sight. A threaded cap is included and the muzzle brake thread is 5/8×24. Requires an FFL dealer to ship.

    So, made by Chiappa?

Don't care for the half round/octagon barrel - should have made it full octagon
