Fellow writer Nicholas C recently did a thorough review on the Primary Arms SLx 1x MicroPrism and both TFB staff and TFB readers seemed to have mixed feelings about it with most of the positive views on the 1x MicroPrism coming from those (like me) who have astigmatism and prefer etched glass over projected dots. The National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) has just given their endorsement of the SLx 1x MicroPrism for duty-use giving the little prism sight a bit more clout within the firearms world from a reputable organization.

Primary Arms SLx 1x MicroPrism Receives NTOA Recommendation

The NTOA doesn’t just issue out opinions on specific gear and firearms. Instead, to earn an NTOA recommendation, a product must meet at least a 3 out of 5 across all criteria. These categories include design, performance, ease of use, size, quality, durability, storage, versatility, convenience, application for law enforcement, comfort, cleaning/maintenance, and finally accuracy. Manufacturers must provide the NTOA with 2 to 8 samples of the product and the NTOA will select specific field testers to test the product samples (you can learn more about how the NTOA process works here).

The Primary Arms SLx 1x MicroPrism received a 4.38 overall average which qualified it for a special recommendation and this was largely due to its innovation, reliability, and value over all other metrics. According to one of the field evaluations for the SLx 1x, the prism sight was small compared to others on the market and still contained many more features than larger and more expensive units on the market.

The Primary Arms SLx 1x Micro Prism is very affordable and currently in stock and ready to ship from the Primary Arms website for $249.99 for either the FDE or black version. One of the biggest reactions we’ve heard from both TFB reviewers and readers is that they’d prefer finer adjustments for the optic and according to the rumor mill in the gun industry, Primary Arms may be releasing a version of the SLx 1x with 1/2″ adjustments sometime in the near future.
