TFB Podcast Roundup 16: Soul-Less Guns and Suppressors
Welcome to TFB Podcast Roundup 16! Working within the gun industry as a writer, I find myself jumping from subject to subject very often, and it’s not until I run into a review item or a specific rifle or pistol that I end up going down the hundreds of rabbit holes that exist within the gun-o-sphere. I have a recently released rifle headed over to me for review and a core component of my setup is going to include a suppressor. Knowing this I looked up a bunch of podcasts to get a good read on what type of suppressors everyone is using for each of their applications to figure out what was “optimal” within the confines of my review. So this week I’m going to share with you a few different podcasts that have to do with suppressors/silencers and hopefully each of them will offer you a different form of value other than the standard suppressor talking points – I thought they all did for me.
I’ve also included a pretty fun podcast from Mike over at Full.Lead.Taco. I’ve been following Mike for a long time and he has a relatively small YouTube channel (less than 10k subs) and if it weren’t for him I would have never gotten my .458 SOCOM to build off of the ground. Feel free to head on over to youtube and give him a follow or subscribe to his podcast which will be our first feature below!

TFB Podcast Roundup 16: Soul-Less Guns and Suppressors
Length: 65 Minutes
Subjects: Mike and the guys talk about guns without soul
Like I said above, I’ve been watching and listening to Mike for a long time and I think he’s honestly an underrated channel when it comes to a variety of subjects. Mike normally specializes in reloading and casting for his guns but he also delves into other subjects occasionally. This episode of the Concealed Taco Dudes podcast is extremely subjective and talks about a lot of guns that Mike and the crew don’t think have any soul. Be sure to check out this one to see if any of your favorite guns made their list.
Length: 40 Minutes
Subjects: Silencer Shop CEO Dave Matheny talks with TFB Editor in Chief Pete about the company and its latest exploits
This is a recent podcast that was done by our very own TFB Editor in Chief and the host of the TFB Behind The Gun Podcast with Dave Matheny as his guest. Dave and Pete talk about all things suppressors including the latest releases from Silencer Shop as well as how the company came to be and what it does for its customers.
Length: 54 Minutes
Subjects: Mike Pappas and Dead Air Chief Engineer Todd Magee talk about the new Dead Air Primal suppressor
Speakeasy Podcast Ep 23 – With Chief Engineer Todd Magee and the new Primal Suppressor. Hear all about Todd’s story. Where he was before Dead Air and the development of the newest Dead Air Suppressor, The Primal.
The multi-purpose .46 caliber Primal. Optimized for big caliber high-pressure rifles, but adaptable enough for your pistol – and everything in between.
Length: 39 Minutes
Subjects: Griffin Armament owner Evan Green speaks about his life in the military and what lead him down the path to starting up Griffin Armament with his brother Austin
What started in Wales, WI in 2004 has grown to be a commercial success, an armament company selling nationally and changing the industry. The brothers’ interest in firearms and suppressors began in childhood. Growing up as homeschooled brothers in the Midwest, they devoured books on WWII, Vietnam, and biographies on famous snipers. They also knew some people who had silencers; Evan said it was life-changing the first time he used one, compared to the first time you ride a motorcycle or go climbing. Later they used silencers in the military, having competed for two sniper slots among sixty others. Evan and Austin got both of the openings.
Length: 86 Minutes
Subjects: Selecting the right suppressor for you
So you want a suppressor, that’s a no brainer, but which one? What are all the differences between the suppressors we see on the market today and what’s even significant about those differences? All good questions – Mark and Jimmy had the same ones and a whole lot more for Adam and Reuben, our in-house NFA-item nerds. We dive into the three main types of suppressors, rifle, pistol and rimfire, and some of the things you should be aware of when purchasing your very own. Which suppressor do you think Mark should get? We finally got him back into AR ownership, let’s get a suppressor in his personal arsenal, too!

That’s all I’ve got for this week folks. Don’t forget that TFB has its very own set of podcasts that come out every Thursday morning and if you’re really into suppressor content, we have an ongoing series usually handled by our Editor in Chief Pete called Silencer Saturday. If you need a weekly dose of silencer-focused content and want to know what the latest and greatest is out there, be sure to check out our Silencer Saturday archives here. I fully agree on the value of the Full.Lead.Taco channel. Mike feels like a genuinely nice guy and I believe that a lot of the info that he offers could not be found anywhere else, without hours of research and conflicting results.
Thanks to this Podcast overview I discovered the Concealed Taco Dudes podcast and I found myself enjoying their chats more than I would have thought.
