POTD: East Meets West in Saber Junction 2021

    Saber Junction 2021

The first online photograph is said to have been published by Tim Berners-Lee in 1992. It’s uncertain how many were actually able to see that image at the time, but probably not a lot. Luckily TFB’s Photo Of The Day is a lot more popular and anyone with an Internet connection is welcome to visit. Here we do our best to focus on interesting high-quality images with a focus on firearms of all sorts.

Today we just have one picture to focus on, but I picked it because of the symbolism of the AR versus AK, where East meets West in a Joint Venture between Bulgaria and the U.S. Army.

U.S. Army First Lt. Benjamin Besh, assigned to 2nd Cavalry Regiment, stands with Bulgarian Pvt. First Class Tsvetomir Totev during a guard shift at Hohenfels Training Area, Germany, Sept. 17, 2021 . Saber Junction 21 (SJ21) is a 7th Army Training Command (7ATC)-conducted, U.S. Army Europe-Africa (USAREUR-AF)-directed combat training rotation for the U.S. Army’s 2nd Cavalry Regiment (2CR) at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) from August 26, 2021, to September 29, 2021.

The exercise will take place on the Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels Training Areas in southern Bavaria, Germany. The exercise is designed to evaluate and assess the readiness of the regiment to execute unified land operations in a joint, combined environment and to promote interoperability with participating allied and partner nations.
