This week we’re hearing from Doug E, a writer at TFB. Doug has years of law enforcement experience as well as a lot of solid well-contemplated thoughts about how to respond to shootings and how to best be prepared for such a dramatic and rare event. On this episode of the TFB B-Side Podcast, Doug and I discuss the various situations you may find yourself in, how you can help law enforcement instead of hindering them, and also a couple good tips on how not to get shot in these types of situations should you find yourself in one. Doug and I also talk about the Grey Man concept, its validity in everyday situations and how perhaps the concept itself has been taken out of proportion and somewhat skewed by the onset of its coining. Today on the B-Side podcast I’ve brought along my good friend Doug E to talk about a few different things. First on our list of things to talk about is hot topic of responding to shootings. Although it’s something we never want to deal with, the unfortunate reality is that random violence can happen to us almost anytime and anywhere. Using his experiences in law enforcement, Doug gives us his thoughts on how you should ideally respond to a shooting in progress or maybe even one you’ve been involved in yourself.
Second, we talk about the concept of the Grey Man. Coined as a term to describe a person who is prepared to defend oneself in an instant, the concept has been somewhat bastardized to reflect a person decked out in the latest tactical gear instead of an unassuming guy just minding his own business in swim trunks. Doug also gives us his thoughts on this concept and we discuss a bit about how the Grey Man might actually be you already.
