If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, (and a few trolls on the internet) decided the Ruger 22 Charger was a hot gat.

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Stormtrooper’s P7 or Mental Hospital Camo?

This, to me, is the gun equivalent of those late-night Sarah Mclaughlin commercials.  I don’t know who did this to you P7, but I feel compelled to rescue you now.

The P7’s uses a very cool gas-delayed blowback system, where the expanding gasses resist the force of the side retracting in order to mitigate recoil (as you can see in the image below).

Additionally, the chamber has 18 flutes that aid in the extraction process after the bullet is fired.  This prevents the case from sticking to the chamber walls.  The only drawback to this design is that it causes the breech to open prematurely, and the high-temperature gasses under the trigger heat up the gun quickly.

The sights on this P7 give me an idea of what happened to this gun.  As it got older and started to show some wear, the owner decided it’d be best to give it a new paint job.  That natural wear is called patina, and sadly this gun has lost that natural patina and now looks like it’s been dipped in Wite-Out.

Is this still an awesome Heckler & Koch P7?  Yes.  Does it come with all the goodies you’d want as a collector?  Yes.  Would you rather buy this and spend the time restoring it, or just buy one that’s all original?  Well, and as always, I leave that up to you, the reader, to decide.
