SILENCER SATURDAY #194: Pistoling With The SilencerCo Omega 36M
About three weeks ago we got a general overview of the Omega 36M. This is a modular, multi-host, multi-caliber suppressor built to withstand heavy punishment. While larger suppressors can be brushed off on larger rifles, there’s no where to hide on pistols. I’d like to know how well the Omega 36M suppresses pistol hosts. But first, a review of the 36M from our last review.
- Adaptability: This one silencer can suppress dozens of hosts spanning from rimfire rifles to pistols and subguns, to semiautomatic rifles and extreme long range setups.
- Modularity: The 36M can be reduced in size for a more compact and light setup.
- Strength: Like the bomb-proof Saker before it, the Omega 36M should last for generations.
- Suppression: The 36M’s baffle stack is super efficient. It probably won’t win the Most Quiet award at Rimfire Summer Camp this year, but it will hold its own with the rest of the top-tier options.

When it comes to their centerfire suppressors, SilencerCo has grouped mounts and accessories into three categories: Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie. The Omega 36M uses all of the devices in the Charlie family, in this case the Charlie Piston Mount. With the right mount, any SilencerCo piston with the correct threads will work. The naming convention for SilencerCo’s accessories is simple yet also genius. Often it’s difficult to figure out which mount works with which model suppressor.
Let’s start with the biggest question first – Is the Omega 36M quiet on pistol hosts? The answer is a solid YES. Using what I would consider to be one of the best pistol suppressor hosts available, the Beretta M9A3, and with the Omega in its long configuration, the at-the-ear unofficial report was impressive. I’d rank it up there with best of the pistol suppressors currently available. Well done, SilencerCo.
This is probably a point where I should eat crow – my previous statements saying that “universal suppressors” are just ok on all hosts an don’t stand out in any one category was incorrect. The Omega has a soft, low thump of a report, and I did not feel the need for additional ear protection.

In the short configuration on the SIG XCarry P320, the Omega 36M was expectedly louder, but was still impressive for its size. I’d say that the sound was on par with the SilencerCo Omega 9K.

For a pistol suppressor, the 36M is on the beefy side, especially in its longest form. The price you pay for this nearly universal can is in size and weight. Longer than most hosts and pushing nearly 17 ounces, this silencer has some heft. But, removing the front section puts it back in line with the majority of pistol suppressors, at the cost of a few decibels.

The SilencerCo Omega 36M caught me off guard for this part of the review – I was sure that this is where the universal silencer theory falls short. But if you are ok with a few extra ounces, the Omega will suppress a quality pistol about as well as anything else available. We’ll return with our final part in the review series with rifles and subguns.
