Good evening everyone and welcome back to another edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the YHM Turbo K rifle suppressor. Last week we took you through all of the YHM rifle suppressor options. This week we get an initial look at the SilencerCo Omega 36M highly modular and adaptable suppressor. Are multi-host suppressors a solid option, or are you better off buying three or four specific suppressors instead? Let’s take a look.

Unfortunately, with arrival of severe weather, I don’t have any direct comparisons with the Omega 36M to discuss today. Today we’ll take a look at the many features of this SilencerCo can and return with some head-to-head shootouts in the following weeks.

I have be vocal in my opposition to many do-it-all suppressors in past reviews. The whole ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ description frequently comes to mind. But, having had a few weeks to play with the Omega 36M, I definitely appreciate more of the benefits than I have in the past. I’ll even go far as to say that the 36M is a solid option for those who are planning on owning just one silencer (nearly impossible once you fall in love with shooting suppressed) or who plan on suppressing one host 90% of the time but would like the ability to mount to other guns from time to time.

The benefits of the Omega 36M can be proven down into four main categories:

    1. Adaptability: This one silencer can suppress dozens of hosts spanning from rimfire rifles to pistols and subguns, to semiautomatic rifles and extreme long range setups.
    2. Modularity: The 36M can be reduced in size for a more compact and light setup.
    3. Strength: Like the bomb-proof Saker before it, the Omega 36M should last for generations.
    4. Suppression: The 36M’s baffle stack is super efficient. It probably won’t win the Most Quiet award at Rimfire Summer Camp this year, but it will hold its own with the rest of the top-tier options.

Let’s take a look at the details.

The Omega 36M is a two-piece modular design with a fully welded core, front and rear. The rear core contains Cobalt 6 and Inconel baffles which provides extreme wear resistance under high heat and heavy fire. The front core consists of new lightweight 17-4 baffle design to save weight while still providing high wear resistance. The titanium outer tube with lock-ring prevents tube loosening and reduces weight. The 36M is finished with a black Cerakote for a heightened level of durability.

The Omega 36M is rated down to 10” barrels for 223 Remington/5.56mm NATO, 16” barrels for 308 Winchester/7.62mm NATO, and 20” barrels for 300 Win Mag and 338 Lapua Mag.

The ASR system for rifle mounting is a descendant of the trifecta MAAD mount system, that was described years ago as being “too engineered”, and the SWR Specwar locking ring. When it worked, it really was a beautiful system. In any case, the ASR system is very well designed and takes its job very seriously. While I’m not a regular user of the ASR mounts, the work as designed and feel rock solid.

The Omega 36M is compatible with SilencerCo’s Charlie mounts and can take everything from direct thread modules, to pistons and three lug attachments.

Swapping out mounts is as easy as using the two included wrenches to loosen and tighten each one to the main tube.
