Is everyone excited to still be talking about the growth of ammo prices over the last year and a half? Of course, we’re not. Unfortunately, although there has been some recent relief in some areas and for some calibers, for the most part, we’re still nowhere near pre-panic levels. Even more unfortunately, it looks like the journey to get back there may be slow or possibly never fully come. Between 2020-2021’s prolonged period of massively increased demand and logistical/supply chain problems, it’s been a tough time for most shooters’ bullet budgets. TFB has reported on some prior pricing increase announcements, and sadly, we now have to do so again. The quote below comes from a memo that Vista Outdoor recently sent their dealers.

Dear Customer:
Thank you for your business and for your continued support of American jobs and manufacturing. As the country continues to recover, demand for raw materials is increasing throughout the economy. We are seeing price increases in brass, lead, steel, paperboard, corrugate, resin and many more with little sign of stopping. Effective 11/1/2021, CCI, Federal, Hevi-Shot, Remington, and SPEER ammunition will take… price increases… This price increase represents the new 2022 pricing.
Rest assured that Vista’s brands, like Remington, are doing all they can to get you as much ammunition as they can at the best prices possible.
The increases are expected to be 3-5% in most cases, although reloading components like primers and powder may be harder hit, with 10-15% jumps possible. Perhaps most disappointingly is a note toward the end of the memo which states that new primer orders are being temporarily suspended. This is likely being instituted in an effort to do right by their dealers and focus on satisfying a sizeable backlog of existing orders. Hopefully, these measures help the supply/demand disparity to continue evening out in the coming months, so shooters start seeing ever better availability and pricing before too long. In the meantime, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to try a laser-based training system like Mantis or Strikeman, and to put in more dry fire practice time. See you at the range!
