The hand stop or indexer is a popular aftermarket piece that many AR-15 users choose to run for one reason or another. I have recently used several of them to serve as a direct indexing point so that my light and IR illuminator combo is always where I expect them to be. Other people use them as a great way to bring their hand to the same place on the rifle every time so that their grip is consistent for competition purposes. Arisaka Defense has expanded their Indexer lineup to include new attachment methods for both KeyMod and LWRC compatibility making their Indexers compatible with almost any rifle currently on the market.

The patent-pending Arisaka Indexer is the company’s continuation of its low-profile minimal control accessory lineup. The Indexer was brought about from end-user feedback and demand for both an LWRC and a KeyMod version to fit the proprietary handguards. The Indexer features a slim front-to-back profile and a slight radius across both faces to provide a comfortable indexing grip.

The main intent according to Arisaka Defense is to place the indexer between two fingers (usually the index and middle fingers). Arisaka recommends that you place yours further forward on the handguard so that it doesn’t get in the way when transitioning to kneeling or prone positions where most people move their support hand towards the rear of the rifle for better support. When the Indexer is used in this way it makes the rifle much easier to securely place against your shoulder while shooting for better recoil management. As a final benefit, Arisaka also says that their hand stops which are made from 6061-T6 aluminum and are Type III hard coat anodized, can withstand the abuse of being used as a hand stop or even a barricade stop. The KeyMod version of the Indexer, as well as the LWRC version, are both sold for $33.00 from the Arisaska Defense website.
