SILENCER SATURDAY #188: Perfect Pistol Pairing - SIG XCarry With MODX-9

Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to another edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by our friends at Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the sweet YHM R9 suppressor. Last week we got a first look at the Elevated Silence Evolution on a bolt action setup. We’ll get back to the Evolution and some semiautomatic and comparison testing soon. This week we have a quick look at a perfect pistol pairing that I’ve really been enjoying – the SIG Sauer P320 XCARRY LEGION with the MODX-9 Modular suppressor. Let’s take a look at some pistol and silencer porn and talk about this combo that will be the envy of all your summer party guests.

SILENCER SATURDAY #188: Perfect Pistol Pairing – SIG XCARRY With MODX-9

Today’s Silencer Saturday is going to be lighter on technical data and tangible results and heavier on subjective observations. So put on your ‘feelings and happiness’ cap and let’s take a look at the SIG Sauer P320 XCARRY LEGION and MODX-9 suppressor, one of the most satisfying combinations I’ve shot in a long time.

I’ve lusted after SIG’s Tungsten infused frame ever since I held a prototype about three years ago.  It’s heavy, but in a classic steel-frame way that makes you reminisce about the P226. The added weight helps balance this P320 and definitely helps tame perceived recoil. Even though the MOD-X is a svelte suppressor, the additional grip weight gives the whole package a satisfying feel.

Personally, I wouldn’t classify the XCARRY LEGION as a carry gun – it’s heavy, has raised target-style sights, a flared magwell attachment and obviously a threaded barrel. I’d classify it as a tactical/completion hybrid that would sit nicely in an outside the waistband or drop-leg holster.

But that’s fine – I rarely conceal carry a suppressed pistol. This is one of those times where some added weight and bulk just feels right. Insert the obligatory Thicc comment here.

    Here are the complete measurements.

    SIG Sauer: P320 XCARRY LEGION

The P320 XCARRY LEGION is the perfect balance of performance and practicality.  With the innovative TXG XCARRY grip module, the weight of the pistol with an unloaded magazine is over 40oz which results in up to 50% less muzzle flip than comparatively sized polymer pistols.  The trigger pull of the XCARRY LEGION is up to 30% lighter with the new skeletonized trigger, which increases shooting speed and accuracy. The signature LEGION Gray finish comes standard, as well as LEGION markings on the sight plate and on all three of the Henning Group® anodized aluminum basepads.

The 4.6” threaded barrel (1/2X28) and fully adjustable XRAY3 day/night sights create the perfect platform for suppressed shooting.  The detachable extended magwell and optic-ready slide compatible with the ROMEO1PRO, ROMEO2, Deltapoint PRO, and RMR make the P320 XCARRY LEGION one of the most capable combat pistols in the world.

Having a weighted pistol doesn’t mean you also have to add a heavy suppressor. The MODX-9 is fairly light to begin with, but dropping three baffles from the modular setup gives a nice balance of weight, length, and overall suppression. quiet enough for a lot of fun without the lingering size question of “should I have just bought an MCX?”

My one criticism may be that the threaded barrel is a quarter of an inch too long – adding in the piston and the barrel gives the overall length another nearly two inches before the baffles. If I had to guess, this threaded barrel was made for compensators instead of suppressors. However, the extra length is definitely not a deal breaker.

I’ve had minor criticisms of suppressing the P320 platform in the past – blowback and harsher felt recoil. However, the XCARRY LEGION and MODX-9 package didn’t exhibit any serious concerns. Both of them will find a permanent home in my safe – I just have to drop my payment in the mail to SIG first.
