TFB Podcast Roundup 4 - Student of the Gun, Bob Faxon, & Ian McCollum

Welcome to the TFB Podcast Roundup 2: This week we’ve got a fresh new variety of podcasts as well as one special throwback episode featuring the legendary Chuck Pressburg from Presscheck Consulting. I was drawn back to this particular podcast because of the recent uptick in activity surrounding the Next Generation Squad Weapon. In the podcast, Chuck goes on to explain why we’ve historically gone with lighter calibers over larger ones and why we’ve often opted to go with smaller calibers to carry more ammunition. We’ll save that one for the end and instead start this week out with Vortex Nation’s excellent podcast in which they take 10 minutes to talk about a 6.5 Creedmoor life hack they think you should all know.

Once again, if you’re looking for more great podcast content, don’t forget there is the weekly TFB Behind the Gun Podcast which is hosted by our Editor in Chief Pete! Last week Pete spoke with the guys from LMT Defense about some of their new products for 2021. Don’t forget to check it out and subscribe to the TFB Behind the Gun Podcast on your favorite podcast app.

The guys at the Primary & Secondary podcast talk about how the proper use of light can lead to domination in armed engagements but how it can also hider you if you don’t employ the simple weapon-mounted tool correctly. About midway through the podcast, there is quite a funny anecdote about how one of the panel members got into “a gunfight with himself” primarily because of his weapon-mounted light.

The DIY Instructor | GUNS Magazine Podcast #88

    Length: 34:51

Topics: Training tips for family members and friends

While professional firearms training is always preferable, most new shooters start their learning journey under the auspices of a friend or family member.

To help those non-professionals who have been given the opportunity and honor of training others, we talk to Gunsite Academy CEO Ken Campbell about how to do the best possible job of introducing others to the world of firearms.

TFB Podcast Roundup 2: DIY Trainers, Pinot, and Hacking 6.5 Creed

Ken Campell has some really great tips in here for gun owners who have had to take up the mantle of the impromptu gun teacher. With an unprecedented number of new firearms owners out there, this is probably some of the most relevant information for current gun owners to have, even if they haven’t had formal training themselves. Ken makes a very directed point about making your trainee’s very first experience a pleasant one (i.e. starting with dry fire practice) in order to encourage continued training and practice. Ken also mentions that it’s probably best not to belittle your new apprentices when they are getting used to their gun legs.

Podcast Throwback: Chuck Pressburg Knows Soldiers Can’t Shoot

As promised we have a bit of a throwback episode that I still think is relevant today. On the Primary & Secondary ModCast 103, Chuck Pressburg basically goes over why we selected 5.56 over .308 despite the distinct advantages that it has in terms of neutralizing targets at range. To put it simply, Chuck thinks that soldiers need more bullets. You can check out the short excerpt from the podcast below:
