Kelbly has introduced two new Remington 700 footprint bolt-action rifle actions called Prometheus and Nanook. These actions share a lot of features but they also differ significantly. In a nutshell, the Prometheus is designed for tactical rifle builds whereas the Nanook is a hunting rifle action. Let’s take a closer look at the similarities and differences of these two new Kelbly actions.

Kelbly Prometheus Action

The receivers and bolts of both Prometheus and Nanook actions are machined out of solid steel blocks and have a nitrided finish. The receivers feature integrated .250″ recoil lugs, anti-shear bolt stops and are compatible with Kelbly Atlas barrels. The bolts are spiral fluted and feature Sako-style extractors, Kelbly TG mechanical ejectors, aluminum bolt knobs and bolt shrouds. Both actions are available in short and long length options. The short actions can be ordered with bolt faces compatible with cartridge case head diameters of .378″ (e.g. .223 Rem), .447″ (6 PPC, 6 ARC), .473″ (.308 Win, 6.5 CM) and .532″ (.300 Win Mag, 6.5 PRC). The long actions are available with .473″, .532″ and .588″ (.338 Lapua Magnum) bolt face options.

Being a tactical rifle action, Kelbly Prometheus features a one-piece 20-MOA top Picatinny rail and is available with AICS/AW pattern detachable magazine cutouts only. To better suit a hunting rifle build, the Nanook action is skeletonized, has an interrupted lightened top Picatinny rail and is compatible with ADL/BDL type magazines. The dimensions of both actions are identical (length: 8.1″/8.95″, width: 1.35″, height: 1.916″), however, due to the skeletonized design, the Nanook is 7oz lighter than the Prometheus – 24 oz vs 31 oz (short action).

Depending on the caliber choice and action length, the Prometheus action will cost you $1,300-$1,400 and for the Nanook, you’ll need to pay $1,400-$1,500. Right now both actions are available for preorder and there is a $150 preorder discount on all versions. Both actions can be ordered in right or left-handed configurations.
