There is nearly an endless amount of semi-auto shotguns available on the market today to choose from. However, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like the VRF14 before. The new VRF14 from Rock Island Armory is the company’s newest offering that takes the concept of a Mossberg Shockwave or Remington TAC-14 and melds it with the gas-operated shotgun concept. The new Firearm has just been announced and as such, no information on pricing or availability has been made yet.

New VRF14 12 Gauge Semi-Auto Firearm from Rock Island Armory
Although the VRF14 is very similar in style to the VR80, it does not qualify as a shotgun by the ATF’s standards. The new firearm is capable of using 2-3/4″ and 3″ shells and comes standard with a 5+1 capacity magazine but can also take all current 9 and 19-round VR-series magazines. It also features flip-up sights, a polymer fore-end, 14-inch contoured barrel, Mobil Choke choke tubes, as well as a single-point sling attachment point at the very rear. The VRF14, like the VR80, features familiar controls for AR users.
In addition to the flat top Picatinny rail, the polymer fore-end will also feature an underslung section as well as two shorter side sections for mounting additional accessories. A majority of the length of the firearm is due to the barrel and the remainder of the firearm brings the total length up to 26″ inches and gives the user an unloaded weight of just 6.6 pounds.
