POTD: U.S. Marine AH-1W Super Cobra Attack Helicopter

    AH-1W Super Cobra Attack Helicopter

Above we have a U.S. Marine AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopter flying over the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California earlier this year. It uses a 20 mm M197 3-barreled Gatling cannon in an M97 turret with a 750 rounds ammo capacity, plus whatever you have fitted to the side pods.

Below we have a U.S. Marine in the UH-1Y Venom helicopter. He’s a door gunner with the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269, Marine Aircraft Group 29, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. The gun is an M2 Browning .50 heavy machine gun and the photo is from the Marine Air Ground Task Force Warfighting Exercise.

Watching the AH-1W Super Cobras take off.

These great pictures are from the U.S. Marine Corps, taken by Lance Cpl. Andrew R. Bray.

Did you ever travel by or fly a helicopter? How was it? I had the opportunity a few times, both in the military and on a tourist tour around New York. Great fun!
