A U.S. Army Special Forces Sniper engages a floating target

Photo Of The Day: Most of the “sniping” I do is done when it’s cold, in the dusk and on land for some reason. These professionals do it differently: mid-air, over the sea and the weather looks quite warm. What’s not to like?

Below we have a Dutch Marine Sniper, as he re-chambers a round in his rifle during a course of fire at floating targets from a Greek Navy Bell UH-1 Iroquois (Huey) helicopter. The training was designed to improve the accuracy of snipers engaging stable or moving targets from land, air, and naval vessels.

The rifle looks like a suppressed Accuracy International AX with a Schmidt & Bender 3-20×50 PMII in a Spuhr mount.

This sniper course was delivered by NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre instructors, some guest instructors from Greek Armed Forces and Coast Guard SOF teams and also from the International Special Training Centre (ISTC).
