A lot of us here on TFB including you readers have expressed the notion that training could be made a lot cheaper using BB guns or air rifles. SIG Sauer has just dropped their new SIG MCX Canebrake Pellet Air Rifle with some pretty rad features and realistic 30-round magazine capacity. This should prove to be a great way to take some of your gear you might have on a similar rifle and put it into a pellet rifle that could probably be realistically used for training or some light pest control.

New SIG MCX Canebrake Pellet Air Rifle – Canebrake on a Budget?
Mirroring the same design cues as the original, SIG SAUER AIRGUNS introduces the SIG SAUER® MCX RATTLER CANEBRAKE .177 Cal. CO2-powered pellet. The MCX Canebrake .177 rifle comes with a metal receiver, paired to a synthetic handguard with an integrated M-LOK™ modular locking accessory mounting system, flip-up sight on top of a full-length Picatinny rail, and a shrouded barrel. The 177 cal. MCX Rattler Canebrake keeps you on target longer with fewer reloads utilizing its 30 round SIG Rapid Pellet magazine.
Based on the innovative designs of the SIG MCX Rattler Canebrake, this CO2 model with flip-up sights and 30 round magazine is ideal for training and practice.
MCX RATTLER CANEBRAKE AIR RIFLE FEATURES INCLUDE:
- 30 Round .177cal Magazine
- Flat Blade Trigger
- Front / Rear Flip-Up Sights
- 90g CO2 Power Source (not included)
- MLOK handguard and Shroud Trainer
- Muzzle Velocity up to 600 fps
I’d imagine that the 600fps claim is probably for only the first couple of magazines. I’m glad to see that they didn’t opt to go for the much smaller and less effective 12gram cartridges to power the air rifle as I think you’d probably get less than a magazine of 600fps performance out of it before needing to replace it. What are your thoughts on this new air rifle from SIG? The new SIG AIR MCX Canebrake is available for 249.99. Is this something you would consider for training or just for fun?
