The SIG 550 series is, at least for Americans, an uncommon but desirable carbine, and shrouded in mystery. These guns are hard to find, expensive when you do find them, and because most of the ownership and the history relative to the SIG 550-series originates in Europe, even knowledgeable shooters and collectors in the United States know very little about these guns.

I recently bought a SIG 553 from my friend William, a/k/a Mishaco, who is the owner of Ozark Bear Arms in Arkansas. He’s a YouTube personality, and perhaps one of the most learned scholars of Kalashnikov-type firearms in the industry. This is made all the more impressive by the fact that “Misha,” as his friends call him, is blind. In spite of this difficulty, Misha maintains one of the most informative YouTube channels in the gun sphere. I don’t often watch YouTube videos, but when I do, I check to see what Misha is cooking.
So, you can imagine my surprise when I saw this recent video of his. As I’m waiting for my Form 1 to go through on my brand new 553 (I went with .300 Blackout, which is discussed specifically in this video), I’m consuming as much content as possible about the SIG 550-series, as we all do when we have recently bought an exciting, new firearm. In this episode, Mishaco interviews Dave Wagner of JDI. JDI is the exclusive importer of the 550-series from SAN, which is commonly referred to as SIG Switzerland for ease of reference.
The video starts with the story of how JDI went from a private investigation firm to the sole importer of the 550-series, and wraps up with a question and answer session from Mishaco’s Patreon supporters. All in all, if you have any interest whatsoever in the SIG 550 series of guns or think you may want to buy one someday, this video is a must-watch.
