HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Mean Green or Tractor Lover's Wet Dream?

Welcome everyone to the 94th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the custom Star BM was custom fudd crap.

At the time of this writing, the original auction is still active with a current bid of $372.88 Reserve Not Met.  We can only hope someone responsible can afford to adopt this Spanish gat.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a Palmetto State Armory AR-15 in a very special shade of green. As is tradition, this .223 Wylde AR-15 is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $925 Buy It Now.  Thank you to reader Rick for the tip!

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“Slap some purple on there and you’ve got the perfect prop for a B-Movie knockoff of “The Joker”” – Luke C.

“For the discerning trailer park hero who loves blasting Joe Diffie songs from his clapped-out ‘96 Ford Ranger, on the rare occasions he manages to afford fuel for it.” – Will P.

“PSA: Do not dip your guns in green paint.” – Giorgio O.

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Mean Green or Tractor Lover’s Wet Dream?Selling this very green gat is GunBroker seller savagerrray, located in Mauston Wisconsin.  Let’s see what they had to say about this interesting color scheme.

As you can see this is Palmetto State Armory AR15. It is built on their Stealth Lower, and has a PSA Mil Spec lower build kit. Now I did as I always do, Polish the fire control group. This give the user a smooth pull and crisp break. This has a mil spec grip, and a MagPul fixed but stock. This but stock does have the QD (quick detach) sling point, as well as a fixed sling point, and has two options for the front finish. It does also except the MagPul thick pad. Comes with a 30 round KCI window Mag. Has the 18 inch heavy, spiral fluted, stainless steel, chrome lined barrel, with a 15 inch light weight hand guard. This has a Billet upper with a slide charging gen2 handle. Now the Color, while it may not be a dead exact match for that tractor green that is loved so match here and around the world it is as about as close as My Powder dealer can get without getting sued, for this same reason I have called it John Denver green and No not the singer that crashed in the mountains. The powder maker calls it Medium green. I take great care in all my builds, but still things happen. as I have pictured there are two ugly nicks in the coating, they are from a very sharp drop against the corner of my Vice. If you can deal with them you will save about $100.00 as I would have priced it $100.00 higher had this not happened. All firearms must ship to a licensed gun dealer, and i will need along with payment a signed copy of that dealers issued FFL. Thanks again, Savagerrray @ Siekert weapon Works L.L.C. (Ray)

I find it oddly endearing that the seller decided to take a macro-style photo of the one scratch on the rifle.  It’s like it serves as a public apology for accidentally marring this majestic John Deere Denver custom finish.

As PSA AR-15’s go you can’t say he went the vanilla route.  Say what you will about side chargers, but it’s a nice break from the norm.  I can’t help but admire his commitment to adding some quality parts to this rifle like the stainless steel fluted 18″ barrel in .223 Wylde.

So is the paint job or price tag too over the top for this rifle, or is this something that’s actually worth considering in the current market?  As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
