HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Spanish Treasure or Fools Gold?

Welcome everyone to the 93rd edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the Sharps Bros PCC was pure fudd crap.

HGFC – Is this PCC Metal or Mental — Poll Results

At this time the original auction remains up with a slightly lower asking price of $1,899.  We can only hope this 9mm PCC finds its way to a new home in the near future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom Star Model BM 9mm Pistol. As is tradition, this golden gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $50 Starting Bid and $995 Buy It Now.  Special thank you to reader Mike Johnson for the tip!

YES!  It is what you think!  Star BM,  Blued and GOLD!   GB’s listing service doesn’t list Star  DUH!!!!!  You can see the  items polished and plated.  The Bluing is super, the Gold is exceptional.  With “certain people” (you know who) running up the price on the Star BM’s to a few bucks shy of $500.00  I consider my price more than fair.  This isn’t some worn out surplus. It has the works.  Hours and hours spent on polishing. High cost of plating, super nice grips!!   BUT.. not just a show stopper.. a SHOOTER!  You won’t find a tighter handgun!  Wilson? Sig 210?  THIS GUN IS TIGHT!  Reliable YES!   50 rounds thru it to check. NO HICCUPS! Smooth as greased snot.  Feels so sweet in the hand, looks so good on the hip.  Trigger pull is a few lbs lighter and CRISP!   Even my beautiful wife has a  “lady boner” over this one.  She loves a shooter!  NOW… Yeah, everyone wants a deal… and I think my reserve is right where it ought to be. You can make an offer but I know what I want and it’s reasonable but not cheapo.  You CAN pay $875.00 for a plain Jane SS Springfield 1911…” just like the other guys have”  or add a few bucks and be way the heck out ahead of them.  I “THINK” I have gunbroker pay set up to work now… (what a pain)  but will gladly take a U.S.P.S. Money order.   I PREFER IT THAT WAY!!!    As soon as I have CLEARED PAYMENT..  I will pop this sucker in the post!  MUST SHIP TO FFL!  Now Postage… I hate to ask it BUT… due to new regs etc. $30.00 to Continental U.S.  only!  rate for AK. and Obama Fantasy Islands… that will have to be checked.  MAKE SURE IT’S LEGAL in your state. Make sure YOU’RE LEGAL.  No C&R.    I COULD ask for a heck of a lot more but I am not a greedy pr—!  I could list LIKE NEW if they had it but used is how  I have to list it.  My Dealer said I should ask $1000.00 easy but I figure a bit lower as my reserve unless you just want to pay the maximum.  Good Luck and thanks for looking. It’s a real “Bobby Dazzler!”

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Spanish Treasure or Fools Gold?

Manufactured by Star Bonifacio Echeverria, the Star Model BM is a single-action semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm.  While it may look like the classic 1911, there’s no grip safety and other design changes were made.  The trigger pivots rearward on a roll pin, rather than moving straight back like a 1911 trigger to trip the sear.

The Star BM was manufactured from 1972-1992 with several companies like Interarms, PW Arms, and Century International Arms importing them into the states.  There were a handful of variants built while in production, but it’s safe to say this one is far from anything ordinary.

As these pistols are no longer in production, it’s really anyone’s guess if this one will sell.  Call me crazy, but I don’t think the gold plating on this pistol added any value.  Maybe just leave it original next time.  But as always I could be wrong, so I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
