POTD: Aerial Sniper Training in Japan

POTD: Aerial Sniper Training in Japan

Japan, the land of sushi, ninjas and volcanos. Here we are at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, looking at Aerial Sniper Training. In our Photo Of The Day, we have U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Ryan Lauritsen, a scout sniper with 3d Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment, engaging a target during aerial sniper training.

The rifle looks like an M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System in 7.62×51 NATO, which has been in service since 2008.
    Further caption:

The training increased the Marines’ precision from a moving aircraft. 3/3 is forward-deployed in the Indo-Pacific under 4th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division. Lauritsen is a native of Pontiac, Illinois.
