At the beginning of the past year, we reported about the French Army’s adoption of the Glock G17 Gen5 as their new service pistol with an order of about 75,000 handguns placed. Well, Glock suggests its customers “follow the choice of the French Army” by offering a limited edition civilian version of this handgun called G17 Gen5 FR Coyote. This variation of the fifth-generation Glock 17 pistol can be found only on the company’s European website which makes this author think that this pistol is not available in the USA at least by the moment of writing this article. Let’s take a closer look.

The French contract G17 pistol and its civilian counterpart are mostly identical to the standard G17 Gen5 with a few minor exceptions. One difference that jumps out right away is the coyote tan color of the frame which as mentioned on the company’s website makes the G17 Gen5 FR Coyote the first Gen 5 pistol to feature a coyote-colored frame. The French contract pistols also feature luminescent steel sights, lanyard loop grip cavity insert and extended slide lock. Other than these differences, the G17 Gen5 FR Coyote shares all the features of Gen 5 pistols such as the front slide serrations, nDLC finish, Glock Marksman barrel, reversible magazine release, frame with no finger grooves, etc.

As shown in the below-embedded picture, the Glock G17 Gen5 FR Coyote pistols will be shipped in matching tan color cases that besides the pistol include two magazines, a set of four backstraps, a magazine loader and cleaning tools. No MSRP is mentioned on Glock’s website.

As a rule, limited edition guns like this are more appealing to firearm collectors. Glock collectors and die-hard fans of the brand sound off in the comments section and tell us what do you think about the G17 Gen5 FR Coyote pistol. Would you like to see these pistols on the shelves of US stores too?
