IDEX has always been an important event for the defense industry players across the globe. Few countries never attended, and one of these was Israel. In 2021, thanks to the Abraham Accords, this has changed. Here we’ll see a few products of EMTAN, short for EMTAN Karmiel Ltd, a name not so familiar for most readers, yet OEM of thousands of commonly available components.
EMTAN – The Ramon Pistol
The Ramon is a striker-fired, polymer-framed 9mm pistol with a very familiar external shape. It is made in Israel mostly for local military / LE use. It sports a 4.02″ (102 mm) long barrel, replaceable tritium night sights and it is available in a wide variety of different combinations. These may involve a longer, threaded (metric or imperial), barrel or a ported one, or simply the choice among 4 different frame shades. Most TFB readers probably have never seen the Ramon, as its marketing is “excluded in the USA, Canada and other selected countries” (quote from the product brochure). Probably anyone can guess the reason. However, an export version is in the works, with enough changes to make it marketable globally. Stay tuned.
EMTAN – MZ Assault Rifles Models
TFB in the past had a look at these assault rifles. However, a few interesting features were shown in IDEX. Possibly the most peculiar is the FRB (Folding Retractable Buttstock) that marries a retractable stock to a short buffer tube, via a left-side folding hinge.Given the fairly limited competition, the MZ-47, feeding 7.62x39mm from AK magazines, could probably gain a decent share in the civilian market.
EMTAN – MZ-9 SMG
TFB first had a look at this model, a simple blowback AR-style SMG, back in 2018. The model comes standard with 5″ or 7″ barrels, although a 16″ model is available as well. It feeds from CZ Scorpion magazines and, according to the company representative, it’s very accurate within a range of 100 meters.Stay tuned for more IDEX 2021 coverage.
