Welcome everyone to the 82nd edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the 10mm not a Glock was just fudd crap.

When the topic is Anzio Ironworks, you know it’s going to be something outlandish. While they’re more commonly known for their 20mm rifles, they do make some interesting 50BMG items as well.

Back in 2009, the FBI even went as far as to purchase some of the Anzio 20mm rifles with suppressors.  For what use, we’ll probably never know. Sure there are plenty of reasons why someone might want a compact .50BMG, but shooting it for fun probably isn’t one of them.

Regardless of how I might feel about the practicality of this particular setup, there is a certain cool factor I’m forced to acknowledge.  We’ve all seen countless Hollywood movies where the good (or bad) guy assemble their “sniper rifle” before taking the shot. This, to me, is the real-world personification of that.

So is that cool factor worth $4,499?  There are fewer and fewer ranges that will allow .50BMG nowadays, and this gun feels like it would spend more time in the safe. With that said, there were apparently only 50 of these ever made. So is it worth it for the price? As always, I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
