OSS is basically a household name when it comes to rifle suppressors. Most of you will be familiar with OSS and their unique “Flow-Through” suppressor technology that reduces gas blowback to the shooter. For years customers have been asking OSS to make a handgun suppressor and the company has responded with the new RAD 9 and RAD 45 lightweight pistol suppressors first introduced to TFB at Gun Fest 2021.

OSS began the development of the RAD 9 and 45 after the launch of the popular RAD 22 rimfire suppressor. Most pistol owners know that for a pistol to function correctly when equipped with a suppressor you will need some back pressure to cycle the weapon. So designing a pistol suppressor that reduces blowback presented the designers at OSS with a unique and simple set of goals:

    1. Mitigate the blowback increase when suppressed
    2. Maintain superior pistol performance

Technical advisor Dan Brokos, CEO of Lead Faucet Tactical and retired Army Special Forces SGM did extensive prototype testing and he had this to say about the new RAD line of pistol suppressors:

It’s annoying to get that constant sting in my face when I shoot my Glock suppressed. When I first shot the RAD 9 and 45 this summer in a side-by-side comparison with the most popular pistol cans I was blown away by the difference – less gas, less recoil and a real soft feel. And my gropuings were tight AF

OSS brought the RAD 9 and RAD 45 to TFB Gun Fest 2021 and gave the entire crew a chance to run these suppressors and also gave us a detailed look at the inner workings of the lightweight cans. My personal experience with both of them was that they are indeed very lightweight and reduce the overall amount of blowback.

Both models include the ability to change the length of the suppressor between a short and long version with the Rad 9 being able to go from a 7.7″ 9.1 oz can down to a 5.15″ 5.9 oz. configuration. The RAD 45 can be reduced in size and weight from 8.6″, 10.3 oz down to 6.4″ 7.6 oz. The assembly and disassembly process is easy and the end caps for the two parts include wrench flats for taking down the suppressor if the need arises for tools. In addition, the flow-baffles require no timing so that re-assembly is much faster.

During the course of shooting the RAD 9 and 45, OSS also revealed that both suppressors will be full-auto rated for 300 Blackout subsonic ammunition. While most of us won’t be able to take advantage of the full-auto feature, it is nice to know that you would be able to put this on your 300 BO and run mag after mag through it without damaging the suppressor.

The RAD 9 and RAD 45 will be available from OSS dealers beginning March 15 of this year and will retail for $849 and $999 MSRP respectively with OSS giving me the MAP price of $789 for the RAD 9 and $829 for the RAD 45.
