POTD: M1A2 Abrams Tank in Live Fire Exercise

Let’s get things started for the new year! This Photo Of The Day should heat things up, with the muzzle blast almost looking like a flamethrower ready to melt some ice. We’re looking at M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tanks from A Company, 2-116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team (CBCT), Idaho Army National Guard as they run through field exercises on Orchard Combat Training Center (OCTC).

With the gun forward the M1A2 is 32.04 ft (9.77 m) long.

Soldiers from the 145th Brigade Support Battalion, Idaho Army National Guard, work on Abrams A1A2 tanks.

The Honeywell AGT1500C multi-fuel turbine engine is a bit larger than your average car engine and develops 1,500 hp (1,120 kW).

The desert looks like a great place to do maintenance in.

    One is none?

    Two is better than one?
