If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the FN FS2000 was indeed a hot gat.

This is a unique and extremely well made black powder muzzleloader pistol in .45 caliber. Yes, it is built like a 1911 45 and has a fully functional grip safety and thumb safety. The grips are standard 1911 checkered walnut. But if part of an original 1911 frame was used to build it, a lot would have been cut off and welded to make this. In other words it could not, within reason, be made in to a cartridge gun. There is no serial number and no markings to indicate a maker. The hammer was definitely made to match up to the nipple which accepts a standard #11 percussion cap. The condition is shown well in the pictures. The bore is excellent and it appears that it is perfectly serviceable although in all the years I have owned it I never fired it. I have no idea of value so I am starting at a penny with no reserve. Shipping is just $15.00. Please pay with a USPS Money Order. No FFL is required but I do need a copy of your ID showing age 21 plus. No sales to California or other oppressive regimes. Thank you!

The seller then added the following statement regarding how the weapon functions.

Several questions have been asked showing a need to clarify. This gun will not disassemble like a 1911. There is no slide stop because there is no slide. The barrel is basically the entire upper where a slide would have been. The length of the barrel measuring the inside, rifled bore is about 7 inches. This is a muzzleloader, meaning the powder then patched ball are loaded from the muzzle. Please never try to fire this or any muzzleloader without proper instructions from a person experienced with muzzleloaders. They are different!! Last but not least, use of smokeless powder in black powder guns is beyond extremely dangerous. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

While I’m no expert on black powder pistols, the above explanation doesn’t shed any light on the strangely cut magazine that for some reason still has a spring.  Maybe it’s cool to practice tactical reloads on a gun that no longer uses a magazine?

There was then a third update that was added by the seller in regards to size and fitment.

Having been asked about the difference between this muzzleloader and an actual Colt .45 ACP I added pictures showing the two side by side. Note that the muzzleloader barrel is longer, it won’t fit in most 1911 holsters. The Colt is not yet for sale.

So there you have it.  A black powder 1911 that’s not actually a real 1911, and will not fit in any holster you own.  By this point, you either see nothing wrong with this (and that concerns me) or you are now lingering in the same sea of confusion that I currently reside in.  With no weight listed, I’m going to ballpark this at about 6-7 pounds of 1911 wannabe.

All jokes aside, someone did take the time to put all of this together.  Not that I necessarily understand why, but they did go to the trouble of adding an adjustable rear sight.  So who knows, maybe there’s some use for this I have yet to be shown?  Either way, this pistol will sell at the end of this auction.  Whether it’s a hot gat or fudd crap is something I leave up to you, the readers, to decide.
