Christmas is always a wonderful time for giving back, spending time with loved ones, and thinking way too much about what you’d REALLY like from Santa. This year I decided it was time to dream just a little bit bigger. How big? We’re talking a .50 BMG GM6 Lynx big.

I know it’s a lot to ask of you Santa, but let me first tell you (what you already know because of your relentless spying) and the readers why I’ve chosen to ask for the GM6 Lynx.

A Tale of Two 50s

We each found our own ways to cope with the boredom that ensued during the initial COVID-19 lockdown. As I’m not someone who likes to sit around, I reached out to Mike Pappas who mentioned he was cleaning his M2HB before re-installing it back into the OT-90.

And yes, just like most Americans, I did binge watch Tiger King, but this was a refresher course on field-stripping and headspacing a heavy machine gun. I’ll pick the latter any day. A few hours and a couple of laughs later, all the 80+ pounds of the M2HB were mounted back in the turret. Little did I know, things were about to get even more interesting.

Roughly a month later Mike reached out and indicated he’d secured the remaining pieces (including the above pictured Barrett Soft Mount) for the ring mount that he was installing atop his M1083A1. With some .50 BMG ammo leftover from an earlier review, I got to experience the Barrett M82A1 like never before.

Standing roughly 12ft off the ground and shooting a .50 BMG that has essentially zero recoil is a spiritual experience. Any miss was 100% my fault, and you’ll able to appreciate how repeatable that big heavy bullet is at distance. I love to shoot long-range, and now my brain was fixated on owning something chambered in .50 BMG. Lucky for me, some good news was on the horizon.

The GM6 Lynx

In September of 2020 Hurricane Butterfly announced they would be importing the GM6 Lynx anti-materiel rifle manufactured by SERO International in Hungary. Unlike anything on the market today, the Lynx features a long recoiling barrel assembly. The recoiling 28.7″ barrel retracts rearward in transit and shortens the gun down to just 36.6″. That’s shorter than an MK12 with the stock extended. All these new features paired with a sub-MOA capable barrel, and you’ve more than piqued my interest.

The GM6 ‘Lynx’ is a semi-automatic anti-material rifle. The rifle was designed to be compact, lightweight, accurate, low-recoil, portable and easily deployable for immediate use. Most rifles chambered in .50 BMG are heavy, long, bulky, heavily recoiling and are of a slowly operated bolt action. Many not even magazine fed.

Due to the bullpup configuration, most of the weight is re-distributed to the rear of the rifle allowing for the possibility of off hand firing. This is near impossible with most other .50 BMG rifles. Thanks to the unique barrel recoil technology, the rifle’s recoil is less than the other rifles in the same category. This design also allows the rifle to be transported at a length of only 915mm/36.5″. It weighs just 25lbs, with a slight rear bias weight distribution. Assembled with match grade barrels, capable of sub-MOA accuracy with match grade ammunition.

Comes with spare magazine, pair of 34mm 50 BMG scope rings, spare barrel spring, bi-pod, cleaning kit, Pelican 1750 hard case and manual.

Final Thoughts

So what’s this going to run Santa? In this case, the price is only available upon request, so he’s gonna have to pick up the phone to find out. Hopefully, he got an extra piece of that stimulus check because he’s going to need it. The suggested retail price of the GM6 Lynx is $14,750.
