HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Tactical Perfection or Nautical Rejection?

Welcome everyone to the 77th Edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided that the Beretta 92F was fudd crap.

At this time the original auction remains up as the Beretta awaits its new home.  We hope it finds its way to that new home in the near future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at the now collectible FN FS2000. As is tradition, this tactical tuna is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $3,999.00.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“When you know that “boating accident” wouldn’t be a good excuse anyway” – Giorgio O.

Can you imagine the disappointment in a young child’s face when he wakes up Christmas morning asking for a Nerf gun and he’s given this abomination” – Adam S.

“A strong contender for the ultimate meme gun. It is not a strong contender for pretty much any other superlatives.” – Will P

“A perfect gun for those of you who like to take 30 minutes to clear the simplest of jams.  Also, that’s a hard pass on the $1500 upcharge over NIB condition value.” – Rusty S.

“My mother always told me that violence doesn’t solve anything.” – Pete

Selling this now discontinued gat is GunBroker seller gomoose02, located in Grand Forks, ND. Let’s see what they had to say about this rare breed of FN.

Released in 2001, the FN FS2000 is the civilian legal variant of the F2000.  It features a slightly longer 17.44-inch barrel with a forward ejection port for ambidextrous use.

Overall, the FS2000 is an oddity, even in the world of bullpups. The barcoded sticker (that looks like it belongs on a 2000’s era Dell computer) is both odd and fitting given the time this bullpup was released.

Some of the features like the forward charging handle do make sense.  Others, like the flip-up chamber cover, are just bizarre, and it’s no wonder why the gun is no longer produced.

Thanks to my friends at Park City Gun Club, I’ve been able to put more than a few mags through their select-fire F2000, or as I like to call it, the tactical tuna.

My genuine surprise at the end of the video is entirely genuine. This was the first time I’d seen this particular gun ran through a full mag without a malfunction. So if you do decide to buy or shoot one of these, you need to take that extra second to flip-up that chamber cover and verify the gun is empty.

The $3,999.00 price tag reflects more on the current state of the firearms market and not the actual value.  However, just like any discontinued or rare item, I could be wrong, and I’m certainly not seeing as many FS2000’s for sale nowadays. So is it worth it for the price? As always, I leave it up to you, the reader, to decide.
