ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS: H&K SP5 like Die Hard's John McClane
Once we all become adults, Christmas begins to mean a lot less to us and is more about what we can give to others. We start families, have children, work relationships, business acquaintances, and endless others we hunt down gifts for. It is not like when we were children and fully expected an evergreen tree overflowing with gifts for us on Christmas morning. What if we could flip the script even for one year though?… If I could jump on the Fatman’s lap one more time and plead my case for toys beyond my budget I already know what would be on my short-list. All I want for Christmas is an H&K SP5 SBR similar to the MP5 John McClane ran around with on Die Hard (a classic Christmas tale, mind you). Also, one of Springfield Armory’s new Model 2020 Waypoint rifles and my 1st PVS-14 monocular to begin my journey down the night vision rabbit hole.
The likelihood of me obtaining any of these items through my own financial means any time soon is fairly low, but it could definitely happen someday. To remedy my impatience it would be much better if the Jolly Man brought them all to me at once. According to my social media, I have been a real good guy this year, I swear (raucous laughter quickly ensues). So, with my Christmas wish list being all but a pipe dream at the moment, I have selected a few “just as good” gift ideas that are certainly more affordable than anything on my list. While my request to Santa might have fallen into the reindeer’s feed trough never to be seen again, here’s to hoping Blitzen and Donner don’t eat my Christmas wish list.
Christmas wish-list: Heckler & Koch sp5 9mm
For some people in the reading audience, you might not have the same child-like fascination that I do with America’s closest civilian version of the Heckler & Koch MP5. If you are not in that party, you need to stoke the flames of that child-like wonder by re-watching the Christmas classic “Die Hard” featuring Bruce Willis. If that is not enough, check out this list of over a dozen times we have written about the SP5 in just the last year.

SP5 – https://hk-usa.com/hk-models/sp5/
$2799 MSRP
The Heckler & Koch MP5 is arguably the most imitated pistol-caliber carbine in the world. But even a pretty good copy is still just a copy. The truth is, you can only get a real HK from HK. And now there is finally an authentic sporting version of the MP5 in the US, and it’s a real HK. The New SP5 will make all those generic MP5 copies out there look like nothing more than gun store consolation prizes. The SP5 was developed by Heckler & Koch as a semiautomatic, civilian sporting pistol that matches the look and feel of the legendary MP5 submachine gun.

Christmas wish-list: Springfield Armory model 2020 waypoint 6.5 Creedmoor
This rifle is still brand spankin’ new to the market for all practical purposes with little to no comparative data or reviews on it yet, but I still want it regardless. All of the components that Springfield Armory meticulously selected to be poured into this rifle plus the addition of their own craftsmanship had me internally screaming: “Take my money!!!”

CHRISTMAS WISH-LIST: PVS-14 NIGHT VISION MONOCULAR
Are there ever things you dearly want, but you have no clue about them?… Well, that is me with night vision. It is cool as heck and I can rationalize purchasing it, but I am completely ignorant on the topic. I am eternally grateful we have Nicholas Chen – night vision grand master – on the TFB staff so I can lean hard into him and ask a million questions. To start that journey of night time shenanigans, a PVS-14 Monocular is a good place to begin.
PVS-14 Night Vision Monocular @ TFB
$2,795 – $4,559 – MSRP
The NVD-PVS-14-XLS Monocular is the all around best multi functional night vision monocular available. Head or helmet mounted, the PVS-14 allows the user to retain their night adapted vision in one eye while viewing their surroundings through the illuminated eyepiece of the PVS-14. Another strength is its ability to be weapon mounted behind most collimated daylight aimers and Reflex sights such as the ACOG, Aimpoint and EO Tech systems. This allows the user the ability to use their PVS-14 both as a night vision monocular for increased mobility and tactical awareness and as a short range weaponsight. Additional features of the PVS-14 include an infrared LED with LED indicator and a low battery indicator.

Like many of you out there, we can all have fanciful dreams of “what we might buy” if we had a million dollars, but I genuinely am a simple man. I enjoy what I have and appreciate the opportunities to test out super cool gear and firearms presented to me. Beyond that, all I really need is a healthy, happy family and the right to bear arms. Merry Christmas everyone!
