Photographs open doors into the past, but they also allow a look into the future.”
Sally Mann

In our Photo Of The Day, we revisit the past. These photos are over 75 years old. Let that sink in and think about it – has history and past events taught us anything?

Ken Bell, who took one of these photos, was a Canadian photographer who served with the Canadian armed forces during the Second World War. He used a Rolleiflex camera. You can learn more about him here.

"And one day, our great-grandsons will carry a less reliable gun. The silly Yanks will buy theirs from the Boche"!

Would like to see photos of the French soldiers during the Operation Overlord.

    Just kidding.

Imagine that Poland was sacrificed and "given" to the communists, while France, that did more for Germany than the allies and didn't even help to free itself, was immediately "one of the boys" after the war...

@Alex Karulin Sure. And 1968 and other examples. Some were properly real, some were started by the communist leadership to stir feelings up. If you look up Polish movies that are now winning international awards and recent literature Nobel winner, from Poland, they all depict that part of history.
