Welcome everyone to the 76th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you the readers, decided the custom Draco was just a pile of fudd crap.

At this time the original auction has ended at $1,100 with the reserve still not met. The Draco has been re-listed and is currently sitting at $1,200. Let’s hope someone has enough bread to take home that fire-breather.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a Beretta 92 FS in .40 S&W. As is tradition, this highly polished pistol is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,199.99.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“Hot Gat. Has me reminiscing about guns and ammo magazine covers of my youth” – Pete

“The ammo in these pictures isn’t the only RIP I see” – James Reeves

“I can’t look at a high chrome 92 variant without seeing brazilian Taurus clones in my head… Hard Pass” – Adam S.

“Fake it to make it. This is not the Inox you want.” – Nick C.

“Someone’s going to be sad when they realize they spent more on a 40 S&W 92 than it would’ve taken to get a much better Langdon 92.” – Will P.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without Die Hard, and it wouldn’t be Die Hard without the Beretta 92. Used by various law enforcement and military agencies around the world, it remains a highly debated gun in terms of likeability. Add the fact that this one is chambered in .40 S&W (even though the seller supplied photos are of a 9mm), and you’ve got a gun store debate waiting to happen.

The Beretta 92 FS isn’t the most modern pistol on the planet, nor is it the lightest. What it lacks in modern features it makes up for in comfort. A good DA/SA trigger in a steel frame makes the 92 FS a fantastic range gun. Granted this pistol will have more recoil in 40 S&W, still, I’d be willing to bet it’s nicer to shoot than striker-fired handguns weighing half as much.

So is this Beretta 92 FS a classic piece that you’d be proud to own? Or is just ridiculous in terms of looks and price? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
