POTD: Swiss Bazookas

Did you know that the Swiss Armed Forces do not take part in any armed conflicts in other countries? The primary role of the Swiss Armed Forces is Homeland Defence only. However, they have been part of several peacekeeping missions around the World, for instance in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In today’s Photo Of The Day, we take a look at the Panzerfaust 3. The soldier above also has what I think is the Sturmgewehr 90 assault rifle (SIG SG 550). The Panzerfaust is a disposable recoilless anti-tank weapon and only requires one soldier to operate. Still, it weighs up to 13.3 kg (29 lb 5 oz) depending on the warhead.

Translated from the Swiss (German) caption.

The highlight of the two-week specialization for 25 recruits from Infantry School 2: Last Friday, they fired their first bazooka training cartridge at the Vugelle firing range. The specialists are now in command of the functional sequence, handling and use of the portable anti-tank weapon.

The Panzerfaust 3 is made by Dynamit Nobel.
