The National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) and the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) have joined together as the NASGW-POMA to announce their 2020 “Best New Handgun” Award and the Springfield Armory Hellcat OSP was chosen as their winner. This should not come as much of a surprise considering the Springfield Armory Hellcat has been one of, if not the most, popular concealed carry pistol of choice for the last year. A full press release from Springfield Armory regarding the award from the NASGW-POMA can be read below:

GENESEO, ILL. (10/23/20) – Springfield Armory® is proud to announce that the Hellcat® OSP™ 9mm has won a NASGW-POMA Caliber Award for 2020 Best New Handgun, as selected by an independent panel of 18 judges from a pool of approximately 150 new products.

Each year, the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW™) awards the top optics, accessory, ammunition and firearms manufacturers who provide outstanding value and service. For this year’s awards, the NASGW partnered with the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) to also select the best new products in six categories, including the 2020 Best New Handgun.

To qualify for the Caliber Awards, manufacturers must be a NASGW member in good standing and the product must have launched within the last year. Over the course of several weeks, the 18 judges analyzed the contenders and chose the Hellcat OSP 9mm as the best in its category.

This is the first year that the NASGW-POMA has partnered together to give us a joint effort on the Caliber Awards. From the sound of things, this is not a one-time endeavor, but a partnership that has been struck for the foreseeable future. Kevin Orthman, the Executive Director with POMA, shared these words regarding the newly cemented union:

We look forward to setting a higher standard with the Caliber Awards for years to come. It is an honor to partner with NASGW to recognize the innovations within the shooting sports industry.

With many of the popular trade shows that were expected to occur this fall/winter being canceled, it is still good to see different organizations like NASGW-POMA completing their yearly awards for us to enjoy, revel in, scrutinize, and potentially agonize over (all in good fun). Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory, shared his thoughts on the recent award from NASGW-POMA as well:

It’s truly an honor to be selected for this Caliber Award by NASGW-POMA. The Hellcat has been a huge success in the concealed carry and self-defense market, and it’s gratifying to have it be recognized by such an esteemed group of judges.

I am one of many Hellcat owners and I have thoroughly enjoyed mine for the past year that it has been out on the market. For everybody in our reading audience, what do you think? Do you think the Springfield Armory Hellcat OSP is deserving of this award? Do you own a Hellcat OSP? Let us know all of your thoughts in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.
