POTD: AKs & PKs in Russian Ryazan Airborne Force School

Today we have a variety of images from the Russian Ministry of Defense, with a lot of AKs, SVD sniper rifles and PK machine guns. They call it a “photo report” from the special tactical training with cadets of the Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne Command School.

Below: Iron sights only for these cadets.

Russian Dragunov sniper rifle. 10-rounds of 7.62×54mmR. The SVD is issued with the PSO-1 optical sight.

The Pulemyot Kalashnikova, or Kalashnikov’s machine gun. It uses the 7.62×54mmR as well.

Lots of sand, this looks like an interesting environment.

Note the insignia on the infantry vehicle below: Airborne. Most likely used to higher heights than the base of a vehicle.

TFB’s Photo Of The Day is where you can discover the world of firearms through a camera lens. Every day we run a new theme, selected pictures with a short story and credits to the person behind the lens.

"Iron sights only for these cadets."

I think western armies are making big mistakes, slapping red dots on every rifle. Our soldiers never learn to shoot properly.

@Kaban But the same also applies to American urbanites. Most haven't ever fired a gun, or if they did, it was one time at a touristy range, for giggles (which is to say, they still have zero firearm skills).
