SIG Sauer Introduces SIG Custom Works Equinox Series

Meet SIG Sauer's new Equinox series of two-tone pistols.

Meet SIG Sauer's new Equinox series of two-tone pistols.

SIG Sauer‘s momentum has been growing in recent years. The US military has adopted their M17 and M18 handguns, based on the P320 series, to replace the aging Beretta M9. SIG has achieved tremendous success in the concealed carry market with their P365 and P365XL line. Recently, they announced a new partnership with a host of the industry’s top custom shops to offer a plethora of “Gucci gun” version of the P320. Their long gun game is not to be forgotten, either, as the CROSS bolt-action has arrived to impress and other product lines also look to be doing well. Now SIG is growing their Custom Shop offerings even further, as they have announced limited-edition versions of their classic P226 and P229 handgun designs as a new “Equinox” series. Hot on the heels of the release of their Custom Shop P320 AXG Scorpion and the blacked-out Nightmare series, the October 27th press release detailing the new series’ introduction reads as follows.

In addition to the two-tone silver and black presentation, these handguns display "Equinox" lettering on their slides.

SIG SAUER is pleased to announce the continued expansion of the SIG Custom Works series of pistols with the introduction of the SIG Custom Works Equinox Series of pistols for the P226 Equinox and P229 Equinox.

“This is an exciting addition to the SIG Custom Works series of pistols, and a must-have for SIG aficionados and collectors alike,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales. “SIG Custom Works has recreated the popular two-tone, contrasting Equinox finish originally introduced over a decade ago for the iconic P226 and P229 pistols. These throwback limited-edition builds have the same look and feel of their predecessors that made the Equinox series a consistent request of SIG fans.”

The SIG Custom Works P226 and P229 Equinox pistols are 9mm hammer-fired pistols that each feature a black anodized metal frame and a Nitron stainless steel slide to achieve the two-tone equinox finish. The pistols are equipped with X-RAY 3 Day/Night Sights, Hogue classic contour SL G-10 grips, a short reset trigger, and pistol ships with (3) magazines. Exclusive SIG Custom Works feature includes logo engraving on the slide, a Negrini SIG Custom Works case, challenge coin, and an official SIG Custom Works Certificate of Authenticity.

Although SIG has dabbled in the concept of two-tone pistols before, as they alluded to in the press release and with this P227 seen at SHOT Show 2016, these current black and silver beauties are refreshed and ready for action. What do you think, readers? Are you excited for the return of this motif in SIG’s catalogue? Do these new two-tone pistols hold appeal, or would you rather have a different P226 or P229 version?
