The SCAR rifles from FN Herstal are being used by several French units. For instance, the FN SCAR-SC is used by an unnamed unit and recently the French Army selected the SCAR-H PR with an S&B riflescope and Night/Thermal Vision as their next DMR/Sniper Rifle. However the French Commando Units have been using the FN SCAR before this, and this is the subject of our Photo Of The Day.
I’ve shot the civilian SCAR a few times, but I’ve only handled this setup with a grenade launcher in gun shows. To me, this carbine looks like a combination that tries to be everything, but probably does nothing really well? Remember that you have to add some sort of sight and normally a laser, as in the featured image.
Below is the FN SCAR-H in 7.62×51 mm NATO, with the FN40GL Mk2 grenade launcher. Note how similar the rifles are.
You can find the SCAR-L here.
