Welcome everyone to the 69th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
In our last edition, our poll showed that you the readers, decided the tactical Mini-14 was a little too trashy.
At this time the original auction has ended without the rifle selling. We can only hope its owner has decided to return it to its former glory.
In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a Colt M4 carbine with a matching M203 grenade launcher. As is tradition, this chonky M4 is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $15,000 Buy It Now.
HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP?
Colt King of the Range or Queen of the Safe?
Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:
“Hot gat. Capitalism will take it from here” – Pete
“Clone life peak performance.” – Nick C.
“The gun your investment banker bought for the boog. Two thumbs up (one of those thumbs in a Footjoy Pure Touch glove)” – James Reeves
“Hot Ga…wait a minute, it’s not even a postie?” – Rusty S.
Selling this collectible gat is GunBroker seller Beretta USA, located in Seattle, WA. Let’s see what they had to say about this expensive combination.
A Colt M4/M4A1 inspired build from the ground up. It’s been my safe queen since it was finished. Comes with everything you see in the picture. Let me know if you have any questions. The 9″ M203 barrel is actually 37mm for flares. The M203 was a very limited run and came stamped with “40mm” on the frame. You can swap to a 40mm barrel. All that’s needed is an NFA stamp. At this moment, it has the 37mm barrel on it. Colt is no longer making firearms for civilians. It’s also hard to find the Knight Armament accessories in brand new condition. Most out there have been heavily used and sells for just as much as a brand new set. I made this one for historical and display purposes. It is fully operational. I just choose to keep it in unfired condition.
Comes with the following:
Trijicon ACOG ACSS Aurora Reticle in red
1x 30 round Colt Magazine
M203 Vertical grip
Magpul MBUS Rear Sight
Knight’s Armament Leaf Sight
Knight’s Armament M203 QD barrel mount
Knight’s Armament Quad Rail with rail covers
Colt M203 40mm Grenade Launcher w/ a 37mm 9″ Barrel (EXTREMELY RARE, ONLY 150 MADE, AND DISCONTINUED)
Aside from the price tag (and a few other minor differences of opinion), this is clearly a hot gat. It’s the perfect gun that can just exist for when those certain in-laws come around start saying things like “no one needs that”.
Owning an M203 grenade launcher attached to an M4 is pointless in a lot of ways, but it’s also one of the most American things money can buy. That said, I liked just about everything on this rifle, and then I read the words “inspired build” and a few things caught my eye.
I’m splitting hairs here, but why was this clone correct build built using an AERO bolt carrier and a Magpul MBUS rear sight? It seems like things could have been finished off nicely using all Knight’s hardware. That said, these are very minor gripes in the grand scheme of things. The real question is, is it worth $15,000? And as always, I’ll leave it up to you, the readers to decide.
What do you think? Is this kitted out Colt a Hot Gat or overpriced safe queen Fudd Crap? Be sure to let us know in the comments below, and cast your vote to let us know if this Colt M4 with M203 Grenade Launcher is a Hot Gat or Fudd Crap:
