The Night-Tronic NT940 Monocular (Mini-14) is a very compact light amplifier. The device is slightly smaller and lighter than the PVS-14 (NT920), yet it offers the same or better performance in darkness. Due to its small size, the device can be used hands-free, head-mounted or helmet-mounted, or paired with traditional sighting or aiming optics. The device can be connected to the camera for “digiscoping” type nature or star photography using the optional mounting adapter.

It is also possible to connect two devices in stereo, to be carried with headgear or attached to a helmet.

In Germany, the Police has signed a framework agreement for up to 2000 sets of NT940s. This would be enough to equip 1000 helmets if that is the intended use. The NT940 C+ uses the latest Photonis image intensifier tubes, which are said to be specially manufactured for this contract. To give you an idea about the price, they are €4 220 each on IEA’s website.

Below you can find the press release from IEA Mil-Optics GmbH in Germany. Since the text is only available in German, it has been machine translated:

IEA Mil-Optics GmbH was awarded a framework agreement for up to 2,000 sets of night vision devices for the federal police, including a multi-year maintenance contract.

In a competitive award procedure, the IEA Mil-Optics GmbH was able to prevail against a large number of competitors with the Night-Tronic NT940 C + device.

The night vision device is a monocular night vision device that weighs only 280g and is made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, which is manufactured according to current MIL-SPEC standards.

The NT940 C + is equipped with the most modern Photonis image intensifier tubes specially manufactured for the Federal Police.

This means that an optimal image is reproduced even in the worst light conditions. This offers the officers superiority and thus security in all conceivable situations.

Due to the close cooperation between the procurement office of the BMI, the user and IEA Mil-Optics GmbH, such projects can be carried out reliably and within a very short time.

IEA MIL-OPTICS GmbH was founded in 2000 and is now one of the leading providers of night vision technology and special equipment for the Bundeswehr as well as state and federal authorities. In addition to manufacturing and sales, IEA Mil-Optics GmbH also specializes in the repair and modernization of night vision systems.

Below are some sample images, just note this is the NT920.

Slight clarification: The Bundespolizei (federal police) is responsible for airports, harbors, train stations and the sole police force of the federal government. The GSG 9 is part of the Bundespolizei and should ring a bell here.
There are also 16 state police forces with their own procurement policies. Northrhine Westfalia has about as many police officers as the Bundespolizei.

This contract is big, but only encompasses some of Germany's police forces.
