A new world record handgun shot has been made by former Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Victor Avila. The shot took place during a 90-minute shooting session where the results were recorded by several methods including GPS and laser ranging devices. The world record shot took place during the summer on Wednesday, July 29th, 2020 but it took several weeks for the results to be officially certified as a world record.

In February of 2011, Avila and his partner Special Agent Jaime Zapata were both shot numerous times by members of the Los Zetas cartel while the two agents were traveling along a Mexican highway in a diplomatic vehicle. Unfortunately, Agent Zapata died due to several gunshot wounds which were later concluded to have been inflicted by a weapon sold to the cartel during the extremely controversial “Fast and Furious” ATF gun-walking scandal.

During the course of Victor’s public speaking appearances, he was introduced to members of USA1Shot – a company that is dedicated to making rapidly deployable brace attachments for handguns with the idea that a law enforcement officer’s sidearm can be used as a stop-gap when a full-sized rifle is not available. From this meeting made use of one such brace during the world record shot.

The shot itself was made using a magnified 10mm handgun at a total distance of 2,010 yards using a scope and one of USA1Shot’s brace attachments for the handgun. The 10mm bullet took a total of 11 seconds to arrive on target according to an interview conducted by Breitbart news with Victor Avila. The shot was made using a 36″x36″ ELR target.

In addition to the world record, 2,010 yards shot he also scored multiple hits using a .40 caliber Glock 23 at a distance of 1,650 yards using an ELR target. All of the shots made by Victor were made from the standing offhand position, a difficult shooting position for a long-distance handgun engagement. Impressive shooting.
